FAST PANCAKES
Next Tuesday is Pancake Day in England and to celebrate, Daron showed the fifth course how to make pancakes! We used a typical American pancake recipe that includes flour, milk, eggs, sugar, and salt to make the batter. Instead of using the typical skillet method, we tried making the pancakes on a griddle. See the recipe below for this tasty treat so that you can make them at home.
In honour of the day, we also held a pancake relay outside in which students had to run and flip "pancakes" in a skillet as quickly as possible. It was so much fun!

AMNIOTIC LIQUID
Functions
Today we are learning about the body´s reproductive system. Using the scientific method, we wanted to know what purpose does amniotic fluid serve? What happen when a woman´s egg has no amniotic fluid? Using two separate bottles, we placed one egg in water with salt, and the other with no water. See what happens when we drop both of the bottles on the ground! There were some exciting results!

BLOOD SOUP
We are currently learning about the circulatory system of the human body. We did a fun experiment to learn more about the components of the blood. Using a glass jar, we simulated the components of blood: the plasma, red and white blood cells, and platelets. It was so interesting to see what our blood is made of using household products. See for yourself!

PEACE DAY
Today is Peace Day! With fifth course, we created white doves using paper doilies. It´s very easy if you would like to try it at home.
FAKE LUNGS
And you can see the photos here To learn more about the body´s respiratory system, Daron helped us to create a fake lungs using a plastic bottle, straws, and three balloons. We were able to see how the lungs take in air with the help of the diaphragm. Watch the video to see how the experiment works!

PEANUT BUTTER DAY
Once again, it is one of Daron´s favourite holidays--National Peanut Butter Day in the United States. Peanut butter is a very important staple in the American diet and has also started to become popular all over the world! Daron gives the fifth course a presentation on peanut butter to describe the background and uses for this wonderful treat. Afterwards, each student was able to try the peanut butter! It seemed like they really liked it!
LUNAR PHASES
With the fourth course, we are studying the phases of the moon. To better understand the lunar phases, we did a fun activity involving Oreo cookies! On a paper plate, we separated Oreo cookies to represent the eight phases of the moon--each time using less filling to show how much of the moon we can see as it spins around the earth.
Watch the photos to see how it was done!

SCIENCE LAB
To better understand the digestive system of the human body, we completed an experiment of what happens to our food after we eat. Using only a plastic bag, a banana, crackers, and colored water, we were able to recreate the process of digestion, with the plastic bag representing our stomach. In the plastic bag, we crushed the banana and crackers together to represent chewing. We then added the colored water to the mixture to serve as the gastric juices for digestion.
Watch the photos to see the results! They are quite interesting.

THE SNOWMAN
The fifth course surprised Daron with a poem they had prepared about a snowman. She was very impressed by their English pronunciation. Watch and see for yourself! It was a great surprise.
